Relief: at last an eBay delivered book that is as described
After several attempts to get the Winston Churchill panorama history written in the best Whig tradition with copies in later editions and some with contributions from other authors, the originals arrived to compensate for the loss of earlier copies in a problematic house move.
This work written in a romantic sweep that glosses over inconvenient details both in UK and in transatlantic and trans-Pacific history does represent the Whig tradition in which many earlier generations of UK people were raised; an important icon of past generations' beliefs and attitudes.

Classic Aladin's cave of essential background information of enduring performing art
Rewarding plot summaries and other historical information by self promoting experts that over a generation after publication can still keep opera buffs - I do not say opera queens - enthralled. Essential reference work for the bookshelf of anyone interested in western classical music. Also, nicely illustrated in both colour and black and white with photos prints, and stage designs.

Maria Callas Studio Concert CDs collection remastered
1 of 1 found this helpful Lovely to have MC discs with simulacrums of original LP covers. New Warner remastering sweetens high notes but makes MC warm middle register more hoarse and chest register occasionally barren. Overall improved sound quality is most apparent in French concert programs and in the Rossini and Donizetti disc (once considered among nadirs of MC discography). Whatever incidental reservations you may have--and even if you have these discs in LP or earlier CD forms--this compilation is a true bargain. More than a precious memento of a superlative artist (and with the significant exception of some ugly singing on the Mozart and Beethoven disc), the collection provides an imaginative education of how to sing core opera repertoire. The singing set a gold standard as regards insight into the music and is now recognized everywhere as so good as to have widened what we now consider what constitutes that core. Some takes on the two Rarities CDs would have been better presented in the original form of their first LP issues. In their remastered form, the Tonini sessions material is good enough to warrant CD issue as an artistic entity on its own. Overall: highly recommended.
