Ad Reinhardt : Art-IS-Art
Okay, so maybe only a book for the Reinhardt fan, but I have been one for many years now. Apparently he used to write as he painted, and this book contains many of his (previously) unpublished writing (notes etc.), together with some of his published essays and letters too. The main theme is Art as only Art, not art as portrayal of thought, feeling or objects that already exist. Art for Art's sake in the most literal sense. As a result of this being gathered from many sources, some of the ideas expressed and prases used are repeated through the book, but used in different contexts. I was surprised at the sheer poeticisim of his writing (for a man whose art is so clinical, precise); the use of repetition, wit, word play, assonance and so forth are used to biting, antagonistic effect. He seemed to make a career out of being a permanent thorn in the art world's side, and I certainly do not agree with everything he wrote. However, it is clear that Reinhardt had a vision, a sense of personal quest that can only be admired. Within a historical context, the book gives insight into the art world of 40's and 50's America, with the rise of Abstraction and the difference in viewpoint between the Abstract Expressionists, Action painters and the more concrete forms of abstraction. His disgust at the art establishment and the commercialism of the art market is laid bare, while the reasons behind his resorting to spending the last 15 years of his life working on his famous 'Black Paintings' becomes apparent. The editor, Barbara Rose, makes well informed and appropriate comments at the start of each chapter. This, together with copies of Reinhardt's handwritten text alongside the typeset version, gives a clear understanding of the intent and clarity of the artist's thoughts and provokes ideas concerning the philosophy and ultimate purpose of art.
Rose Elliot's Complete Vegetarian Cookbook by Elliot, Rose Hardback Book The

Fabulous book!
I bought this to replace an old and well-used copy that got ruined in a leaky-boiler incident! This and The Bean Book changed my eating habits for life 32 years ago when I chose to become a vegetarian. I had only heard of lentils from Neil in The Young Ones back then, and was amazed at how delicious they could be. Butter beans I remembered as dry, powdery and tasteless, but they are now up there as one of my favourite foods! Seriously! Rose Elliot is the Queen of veggie cooking. If you don’t buy this book, then get her Bean Book or Baby Book or another that suits your needs. Do I recommend this book? Yes, I do. I also recommend that you store your cook books away from ageing water boilers!!
Cast Iron Outdoor Fire Pit Bowl Round Patio Fire LARGE Outdoor Fire Pit 57cm

Good for the price
Have only used this twice, but love the dish and stand design with no assembly required. Not the thickest material, but has withstood two fires put out with water (ie rapid hot to cold) without problem. Doesn’t come with a bag or anything, but an IKEA bag does the job! Happy so far.
