Glad to have it my collection
I have a large collection of Joan Sutherlands work. It has been built us since I became interested in Opera in the 1960s Included are the Cds of recitals and full operas recorded with Pavarotti. This DVD offered the
opportunity to see them perform 'live'.
Unfortunately the DVD does not stack up visually as they were both reaching the end of their careers when it was recorded.
Perhaps the choice of material was inappropriate. Sutherland looks quite wrong in the role of Gilda - although her singing is excellant. One could make a similar comment about the Traviata excerpt.
However I would not be without this DVD. I am sure that I will replay it again many times.

If you are a Sutherland fan - buy it!
I decided to buy this book to add to my collection covering the life and work of Joan Sutherland.
This is a slim volume of just 128 pages and on the face of it does little to add to the Sutherland story. But it does. There are some new photographs not seen in other offerings but best of all there are photographs of the costume designs and photographs of the actual costumes that Joan wore for all of her major performances. Joan, I am sure, would have admitted that she was a big girl - and I think it must have been very difficult for the designers to produce costumes to match her glorious voice - but they certainly did. The results are very well recorded here. I was never fortunate enough to see her perform live. This book has made me realise what a wonderful experience that must have been. There is a very comprehensive list of all her major stage and recording performances at the end of the book.She was certainly a hard working girl!!
