Surprisingly good
I didn't have any significant expectations of this amplifier. However, it has really surprised me with its sweet and clear sound. The PSVane EL-34 tubes are high quality and get consistently good reviews. I only have about 100 hrs on it as yet, so it's not fully burned in, but for the money I spent I am very happy. I use this in my office with relatively efficient Klipsch bookshelf speakers, so I rarely use more than 1-2 watts of power. They say the first watt is where the magic happens, and if you have ever listened much to tube amplifiers, you know what this means.

Just OK
1 of 4 found this helpful The amplifier is quiet and has plenty of power. I bought it to replace an old or older Carver M-0.5t amplifier. It sounds dull and lifeless by comparison. Maybe an upgrade or a re-cap would help. I had read that Rotel in general was considered to be somewhat superior to Carver. Not in this case.

didn't sound great and quit after two weeks
0 of 1 found this helpful I had high hopes for this device, as Marantz is a quality name with a rich history and a fine reputation. I remember listening to my first Marantz in 1979, and it sounded wonderful to me. I was hoping this receiver would bring my music to life like never before. Unfortunately I was disappointed on all fronts. This receiver replaced a circa 1990's Carver unit of similar rated power. Unfortunately, the Marantz sounded dull and lifeless in comparison to the much older Carver. Then, after just about two weeks, the receiver completely went out. I have not attempted to return it yet, and without the original box, that may prove to be quite difficult. I hope you have better luck than I did.
