A nice evolution of Space Invaders
Space Raiders is a new-school arcade shooter that stays faithful to Space Invaders, but it ends up with a different syle and many additions. Like Space Invaders, you can only move left or right as you shoot a formation enemies that try to shoot or come right at you. However, this time, you play as humans armed with guns who are trying to stave off a fleet of aliens. There are a fair amount of powerups, such as increased speed and rapid fire, and you have a dodge move that grants you a split second of invincibility. You also have a few bombs and a special bombing move to use. There are 6 stages, which have a set of mini-stages leading up to a boss. The key element to mastering this game is using the "combo" system to your advantage. Shoot 10 enemies in a row without missing to collect items, and shoot 50 and 100 to power up your shot. This combo system adds a lot of technique and skill. Probably the shining aspect of Space Raiders is the boss battles. They are long and very intense. It's extremely satisfying to beat a huge boss and evade all his attacks, rack up a 100 hit combo and destroy him with powered up shot. There are some downsides to this game. For one, the story is pretty laughable, even for a 1-hour arcade game. Second, story mode gives you unlimited continues, so limit those continues and you'll have a lot more fun and excitement. NO CREDIT FEEDING!!! This game takes a bit of time to learn. But overall, Taito has done more than just rehash an old favorite. They've made a new shooter with its own style, and this shows that Taito still has that magic, and I hope they keep making quality games like this.

Best Football Game Ever
Tecmo Super Bowl on SNES plays like previous Tecmo football games, with some enhancements. Tecmo Super Bowl consists of very simple, arcade-style football. The controls are very easy to learn, and the playcalling is not overly complex. Tecmo Super Bowl is so fun because of its very simplistic nature. It's a game that anyone can pick up and enjoy without having to be a football strategian. And unlike many sports games, Tecmo Super Bowl actually has some charm. There are many cutscenes and music tunes for events like rushing for 100 yards or sacking a quarterback. The music of the game really put me in a football mood. The combination of exciting arcade gameplay with an all-out presentation makes this a special game. Tecmo Super Bowl has the usual season mode and vs. modes. People who are used to realistic football games will be put off by the basic nature of this game and the lack of realism, but I'll take this over any football sim.

A great Disney platformer with an enchanting atmosphere
Disney's Magical Quest Starring Minnie & Mickey was originally released on the SNES in 1992 and was likely somewhat inspired by Castle of Illusion on the Genesis. Magical Quest is a great example of how to make a Disney platformer. Have some fair level design, but not so easy as to bore older players. Mix in rich, well-animated, Capcom-style 2D graphics and a sweeping soundtrack. Easier said than done, this formula captures the magic of a Disney game. Mickey (or Minnie) starts out with the ability to jump on enemies and grab items, but gradually he will acquire a few new suits which let him be a magician, fireman, or mountain climber, different suits are useful in different areas. The levels never get stale, and the bosses are usually a sight to defeat. My only gripes with this game are that controls can sometimes be slightly sluggish, and when you beat the game on Normal, Expert mode is mostly the same thing with less life. A textbook example of how to do a Disney platformer. Most Disney game producers are not on the same level as Capcom, but at least they have re-released all 3 Magical Quest games on the GBA for young gamers to discover.
