An almost lost story of a racing sport coming after War
1 of 1 found this helpful This book is a must read for that regional outboar racer living and racing in the 50s / 60s. My parents owned and operated a summer resort on lake Texoma during that time. I though I knew a lot about the sport! Didn't know that much as it turns out. However, my narrow local knowledge actualy reflected the poor media coverage available on most any subject of the time. In a 1957 jr. high science classroom, I remmber how STUNED we were about sputnick! At the same time we in Denison, Texas didn't even known, a Konig are Champion hot rod even existed.
The mercury "Huricane" was our hole world. The book opened a national time line of events I didn't clearly know. Interesting, prespictive. With the internet I find more outstanding things about the outboard racing sport, the Anzani cylinder block was made of IRON they and the Harrison's drank deepely of nitro to develop 200+ HP. and 100mph boat speeds!!! I would like to see Hunn do a second edition tighly focused on the back yard tech of all these motors and their developers.
In this time the backyard developers created HP and APPLE and MICROSOFT much the same. Hunn grudgingly, and clearly critiqued how our culture has moved to these newer and quiter intrest. Yet, how can you ever forget the sight, and soung of A konig pushing a small runabout across a glass smouth Oklahoma, lake Atoka at 60 peer just after a rain.
