The Fall - Hex Enduction Hour - The Fall CD J0VG The Cheap Fast Free Post The

Yr long way from Bjork's Iceland now boy.
When I think about a particular friend of mine's Fall collection - i.e. bloody terrifying, I feel barely adequate to comment on this, but hey, here I am, all full of it and havin' a go cos he won't. This is possibly "The Great Best Fall Album Ever" whatnot, and true, it is a total monster. But (yes: but) you shouldn't feel guilty or "soft as shite" if you don't play it more than any other Fall album. Not everybody wants to hear Augmn or Sister Ray to the exclusion of all other Can or V.U. tracks. They have their place. Let yourself off the hook and play Slates, Slags; Etc for a laugh sometimes, just don't start improvising for God's sake...

Mono Stereo battle rages on, or does it?
I know everybody is all for the mono mix, but if I'm honest, I'm not entirely sure that everybody is listening past the idea that a stereo mix of an old record can be any good at all. It can, simple as that. The stereo mix was the only one available for aeons, and I never once read a review moaning about how it sounded bad because it was in stereo. It was recorded in stereo at the same time as it was in mono - it's not a later, electronically, fake stereo, and as such, is entirely valid, and as I said - nobody has complained about it. Don't worry about your cred if you like hearing it the way you've heard it since the beginning of your life! Both versions sound great, and though there is a difference, don't let yourself be intimidated by the purists who tell you that mono must be best. I've bought the mono/stereo version quite recently, after living with many different remasters, formats etc of the stereo one, and frankly, I'm not bowled over by the difference - it's not some big mad revelation that's makibg a crap sounding record into the great one we all suspected it might possibly maybe be if only if only if only they'd get the mono version out of the vaults. Pants to that! That said, I think I like the mono versuon more. Maybe.
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue - Mono & Stereo Versions 2CD NEW/SEALED

The mono/ stereo battle rages on. Or does it?
The received wisdom is that when it comes to old jazz albums, the mono version sounds miles (sorry) better than the piffling, for lightweights and those poor b#/^'3,*s who just don't 'get it'. In the case of Kind Of Blue, I submit the clearly lightweight and piffling opinion that this is a load of old pants. The stereo and mono versions, according to the sleeve notes, were recorded simultaneously, and as such, the stereo is not a fake, electronic, later add-on. In all the years I've seen reviews of Kind Of Blue, I've never once heard anybody moaning about how terrible it sounds 'because it's in stereo', including me. I have to assume that there's a reason for this, the most obvious being that it sounds great in stereo, and it does. Don't sweat it if you hear the mono version and aren't freaking out about your wasted years listening to that terrible pile of garbage that is the stereo version, because your years will have been spent listening to a 100% stone classic that just sounds a bit different. Don't let yourself be bullied by those who tell you you don't 'get it'. This double cd should confirm the fact that really, they both sound great, and you're hearing them remastered by the same company at the same time, so the actual quality of sound reproduction is the same. All that said, I think I prefer the mono version. Maybe.
