Fun, Beautiful, Engaging, and Challenging
Awesome game! Res Arcana will have each player taking on the role of a specific mage on their quest to acquire more "Magic Things" (the English translation of Res Arcana), which include artifacts, monuments, and magic lairs that will gradually increase your abilities each turn. This is one of those games where everyone is having fun simultaneously regardless of how well you're doing compared to each other. The gameplay is deep but can be picked up fairly quickly, with really useful Setup, Rules, and Iconography cards for each player. You'll rarely have to open up the actual rule book as most of the rules can be understood simply from the symbols on the cards. Additionally, this game can be played either non-aggressively or aggressively towards other players, with certain artifacts such as Dragons and bows capable of attacking the other aspiring mages in your group. I can confirm that Res Arcana is super fun for all applicable party sizes (2-4 players) and offers a moderate mental challenge while remaining quick and lighthearted. Game times usually take between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on how many players you have in your group. This game is up there with some of my other favorite board/card games like Agricola and Photosynthesis in terms of enjoyability, so I cannot recommend it highly enough!
