Leonard Cohen : Greatest Hits CD (1990) Highly Rated eBay Seller Great Prices

Good selection of his best
I would never give Leonard Cohen 5/5 as he can't sing for toffees, and his songs are often overlong and pretentious, but lyrically and musically they have much to recommend them. This is a good selection of his best songs, some of which have been omitted from subsequent Best Ofs, Very Best Ofs and Essentials.
Roy Orbison : King of Hearts CD

Good, but not all it's cracked up to be
Musically the songs on this CD are good, but they inferior lyrically to Roy's old hits, and on some of them his voice sounds slurred. When I first heard the album on tape about 25 years ago I thought that the tape had stretched, but now I know this was not the case, and that Roy was on the verge on another heart attack when he made these recordings. What spoils the CD most of all is the penultimate track, Coming Home, which is a really annoying song that just goes on and on and on though it has nothing more to say. But I would still commend it to Big O fans, as most of it is good to sin along to.
King Rat (DVD, 2005)

Compelling movie
Probably the best film ever made about FEPOWs in WWII. Certainly better than that overblown, pretentious, Oscar-laden "The Bridge on the River Kwai". "King Rat" is based on James Clavell's novel of the same name, and he was a prisoner in Changi, where the story is set. Director Bryan Forbes has gone to great lengths to make the film look authentic. The characters and situations are totally believable. Sadly, the DVD comes with no extras; a making-of documentary would have been a nice bonus.
