Excellent quality "final cut"
Excellent quality "final cut"; good value for money version. Contains Bluray HD version, DVD version and commentary disc. The film itself is highly engaging and with the expanded version fills in the plot holes in the original cinematic version.

Deep Purple - Live At The California Jam 1974 (DVD)
I have owned the VHS PAL version of this programme for nearly twenty years. So when my eldest son started "raking through" my music/video collection I thought it might be worthwhile tracking down a DVD version. This version has a "beefed up" soundtrack as opposed to the VHS version which is mono.
The picture quality is fairly good bearing in mind the source is dreadful US TV standard NTSC (colours are not represented on screen to well) - mind you, Mr Blackmore does a decent job of breaking one of the TV cameras.
This particular concert is little known to the wider public and this is a pity as the lineup was quite stupendous, if you like 70's rock music, ELP, Black Sabbath, Eagles, Black Oak Arkansas etc.
If there are tapes of the entire concert, I for one would purchase. I suspect that the tapes have been destroyed.
If you're a fan of Deep Purple mark III then this is quite an introduction. I prefer the mark II lineup, but none the less this is still very enjoyable and shows off the musicianship of the all the protagonists, I would argue that the quality of technique of Messrs Lord, Paice, Blackmore, Hughes and Coverdale surpasses that of the bands of today.
There are more tracks on the DVD, than on the original VHS PAL version. On the VHS version there is Burn, Might Just Take Your Life, Mistreated, Smoke on the Water, Your Fool No One, The Mule and Space Truckin'.
The DVD has the following: Burn, Might Just Take Your Life, Lay Down, Stay Down, Mistreated, Smoke on the Water, Your Fool No One and Space Truckin'
I thoroughly recommend this DVD as a historical document for those of a certain age and anyone interested in music of the era or discovering the era when there were very many excellent musicians who could play and perform.
The sad fact these days, and yes I'm of a certain age, is that music has actually eaten its self.
'nough said - go buy!
