Missing the basics?

I was looking for a book that detailed the 'Mother' sauces and derivatives thereof. This book didn't have what I wanted but does have several recipes that appealed to me, so it wasn't a complete loss.

Cheap 'n cheerful?

I bought this to use painting military minatures. I didn't want to commit big money on a decent one before I had found out if it worked for me. On the plus side, it is light weight, you can use it whilst wearing glasses and it does provide the magnification I needed. On the down side, none of the alternative lenses have the magnification marked on them so trial and error is needed to find the right one. Also, the adjuster knobs don't tighten very well meaning the eyepiece can slip down. Overall, it was cheap and I can live with the negatives for the moment.
