Good replacement battery for Toshiba Satellite Pro A100
This product shows that a good quality replacement battery need not cost a fortune. It holds its charge for a few days, at least, and can run the computer, which is a Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 made in about 2007, on this battery for about two hours of normal use. This is probably similar to what it was when new. Together with the memory capacity doubled by an extra 1 GB RAM, also bought on eBay, and Lubuntu 16.04 LTS, it has only cost a tenner in total to restore this old piece of kit to full working order as a perfectly usable machine that can live a little longer now.

A great router for anybody interested in trying DD-WRT
0 of 1 found this helpful In terms of hardware, the TP-LINK TL-WR1043ND V2.1 is an excellent router with a gigabit switch, USB 2.0 port, and 2.4-GHz wireless-n radio. In addition, the stock TP-Link firmware can easily be replaced with the open-source alternative, DD-WRT, which greatly extends the capability and security of the device. The procedure for doing this does carry some risks that leave your router permanently disabled, and thus comes with all the normal caveats about recording your network settings, and saving your data before you begin. Nevertheless, it is similar to performing an official upgrade, except that you need to use the most recent factory-to-ddwrt.bin file taken from the betas/tplink_tl-wr1043nd-v2 section of the Other Downloads page at the DD-WRT website. Reset the router to the factory defaults with a so-called hard 30/30/30 reset, and install the new system via the router's System Tools- Firmware Upgrade web page at 192.168.0.1 over a WIRED network connection (NOT wireless). Do not interrupt the installation until it is complete, at which point the original TP-Link web-admin page abruptly fails to reload. The new web-admin interface for DD-WRT is at 192.168.1.1, where you are prompted to provide a new name and password for the router, which you can then configure according to your wishes. For subsequent upgrades of DD-WRT, use the tplink_tl-wr1043nd-v2.bin from the DD-WRT website.

Neon glowlight is soft and gentle on the eyes at night
These little plug-in glowlights comprise a translucent plastic box containing a pair of miniature neon tubes and a resistor, mounted on a British standard three-pin plug base. At night their soft red-orange light is just enough to see the way without affecting dark-adapted eyesight, or disturbing your sleep. They last for years and consume a minuscule amount of electricity.
