Corrosion in controller from exploded batteries

The console works great but the controller had batteries left in it for a long period of time without use, cause there’s battery acid on the connectors and the inside. I had to clean it with a tooth pick to get the connection to work and it is touchy Playing more button intensive games such as Mario it freezes up and Mario just keeps running.
