S & D and surrounding areas.
Any DVD about the Somerset & Dorset (S & D) will be compared with those of Ivo Peters (IP). The quality of film used wasn't as good as IP's, so if you've not seen IP's stuff, buy that first.
Apart from that, this is not bad. It covers various places that are adjacent to but not actually part of the S & D as well as the S & D itself. Also, there's far more footage of the southern end of the S & D (IP concentrated on the northern end): this DVD covers areas that IP didn't.
Finally, there's some nice footage of Bournemouth's trolleybuses towards the end of the DVD.

Does the job. Worth going for the extra absorbency, if you're in doubt.

Very Disappointing
On opening the box, one of the loco's brake shoes fell out - it had been broken off at some point (see first photo). I then had a quick look underneath and saw that one of the wheels' electrical pick-ups appeared to be pointing the other way from the rest - is this deliberate? (see second photo)
Going forward, the loco's not very good - at slow speeds, it can stick on the plastic point frogs (only one of the five pick-ups work?), and usually needs a push to get it going from still. Going backwards is far worse: the loco motor/wheels jam at certain places on my layout (trackwork was done by professional layout builders btw), thereby making running backwards, shunting, etc. impossible. The middle wheelset seems to jam, bending one of the coupling rods - see third photo.
More minor matters: the loco is a bit too shiny (steam engines have never been this shiny) and the cab-side numbers are unrealistically large. And why is the inside of the cab white?
To sum up: this loco is the worst I've ever bought - and that includes Hornby's tender driven efforts of the 1980s and 90s. Don't Oxford have any sort of quality control? I feel very sad writing this, as I've wanted a J27 for some time now. I shall be avoiding all Oxford 00 offerings in future.
