Pride of a city
It has the spirit of the original. It is a perfect replica of the buses on which I rode so very often in the immediate post-WW2 Leeds of my childhood. It evokes memories of a long changed city, of visiting domineering aunts and shell-shocked uncles, of quarrelling cousins and brothers when to travel was still to pass the scars of war, the bomb sites and their twisted piles of concrete left behind. And rust, because rust was everywhere.
These shining buses were the contrast: always clean and polished. Always proud, always harbingers of a better future. Hope in the middle of austerity, progress amidst the wreckage of a war still hurting; the link to education, to welfare, and to new built houses for heroes in their thousands.
