The Cure - Pornography

This album is the logical culmination of the first phase of The Cure. It's dark, dense and brooding, yet filled with driving beats and great riffs. Many critics felt the band had disappeared up a musical cul-de-sac and, after this album, The Cure changed direction to a much lighter tone. They expanded their appeal as a result, but tracks from Pornography have stood the test of time and are now a highlight of their live shows. They now sound more modern and pertinent and the layered mix, that seemed impenetrable to some at the time, opens up to reveal a complexity that draws you in to some of the band's best work.
