Very good for fruit smoothies
I use this blender to make soups. The big foot attachment is handy for this but it really wouldn't be that much harder to do it with the regular attachment and if you have this blender without the big foot attachment I wouldn't say it is worth paying extra to buy it.
I also use it to make fruit smoothies. It struggles to blend hard fruits on their own but it purees them very effectively if you put them at the bottom of your container with something juicier on top. It gets ingredients a LOT smoother than my old Braun 160W stick blender - even seeds get chopped up when I add them to smoothies.
It is heavier than my old Braun 160W stick blender and I thought that would be a problem but it isn't really an issue.
It is supposed to have been designed to have no splashes. However, I do get the occassional splash from it if it isn't inserted vertically into the ingredients but on the whole there is far less splashing than with my old blender.
There are two buttons - on and turbo. Whichever function you choose you have to hold the button in, in other words just pressing the 'on' button once doesn't make it stay on. As soon as you take your finger off the 'on' button it switches off. The 'turbo' function operates in the same way but at a slightly higher power which is helpful for firmer ingredients but to be honest there isn't really that much extra power.
Washing it is very easy. The blending head removes easily by squeezing a button at the side and it is safe for the dishwasher although I've never put it in there - I just swizzle it under a tap of running water and use a soapy spongy if I've blended something with oil in it.
It is quite loud to use, especially as the blender reaches the bottom of a container but as yet it has to wake up the person sleeping in the room above the kitchen.

Not helpful enough
To be honest, this book didn't really help me in my quest to grow vegetables in a small garden. It didn't suggest enough varieties or really explain how to plan so that you always had something growing in your limited space. It also didn't really adequately cover how to deal with problems (insects, disease etc).

Best book I've seen on offal, recipes stand the test of time
I bought this book as I wanted to try and use offal in my cooking as it is nutritious but cheaper than regular cuts of meat. It has lots of hearty (no pun intended), no-nonsense recipes that are ideal to serve up in the colder winter months. Particularly useful are the instructions at the beginning of each chapter that explain how to prepare the offal in that section. There is a chapter that I presume is now redundant as I think that brains were made illegal after the mad cow crises but the other chapters cover all the other non-standard parts of the animal (head, ears, snouts, trotters, kidneys, livers, heart, sweetbreads, chitterlings, giblets, tripe, tails). It's a much more practical book than Hendersons 'Nose to Tail Eating'.
