About

Being the only child of collectors, I began to appreciate antiques and collectables at an early age. The only item I ever broke was my dad's antique mustache cup. He wasn't mad at me because I knew the function of what I had broken, lol. I like antique militaria, vintage video and movie items, and giant monsters such as King Kong and Godzilla. I have a soft spot for sci-fi and Universal Monsters especially!

Good as a webcam, bad as a digital camera. Tripod socket a plus.
I dabble in stop-motion animation, which requires the webcam to be able to attach to a tripod. This was the only webcam that I could find with a tripod socket. The camera also doubles as a digital camera. As a webcam, it is of average quality but when you consider that this model is several years old, the quality is actually pretty good for its age. Since I have to get in close, the fixed focus lens is a problem. The lens however focuses from three feet to infinity so it just barely fits my parameters. The camera's digital camera function is not as good of quality as the camera's webcam function. The internal memory can only store a few shots. When used as a digital camera it drains batteries very quickly (batteries not required for webcam function), so while its a ok webcam, its a pretty terrible digital camera. I like the camera's software because it surprisingly includes a frame grabber for stop-motion use.

Dated, yet factual and well illustrated.
As a child, my wife became fascinated with sharks after her parents bought her some Jacques Cousteau encyclopedia's from a traveling salesmen. The original "Jaws" movie only fueled her thirst for knowledge about these "splendid savages of the sea". Needless to say, I bought the book for her. Despite being over forty years old (originally published in 1970), the book describes how many of the facts we know today about sharks, came from experiments and observations made by Jacques Cousteau and his son. Many color photographs illustrate the dangers involved with studying sharks. Early shark cages and dive equipment are also documented. Recommended for the budding oceanographer, as well as the armchair enthusiast!

Mummy Double Feature - The Mummy's Ghost/The Mummy's Cu
My wife and I were looking for a affordable classic Universal Monsters film on DVD. I found "Mummy Double Feature - The Mummy's Ghost/The Mummy's Curse" on eBay and bid because you got two for one, perfect for watching or for use as a background DVD to have on at a Halloween party. Both films star Lon Chaney Jr. as the mummy. By the time "The Mummy's Ghost" was made, Universal had relegated its monsters to B movie status and this one is obviously low rent. The film is saved however, by Chaney's performance and the classic mummy make-up. The film was a hit at the box office, so Universal decided to do a sequel with a larger budget, thus the next film on the disk, "The Mummy's Curse". This film is set in America, a testament to the writer's imagination. It is well photographed and well acted. It even opens with a short musical segment. Both of these films are campy and melodramatic, but they are a lot of fun. A must-have if you are a Universal Horror fan, or just a kid at hear.
