Superior 90's Pop
This band have always been looked upon as a poor relation to acts such as Saint Etienne. With their later albums this is probably close to the mark, this though, their debut, is a fantastic piece of crafted pop. Tracks such as Not So Manic Now, Just A Girl She Said and Stars set the scene. The highlight though has to St. Swithins Day, a cover of an old Billy Bragg tune.

A British gem.
Thea Gilmore has long been seen as a hidden British talent and on this collection of songs she reveals why this is so. Her lyrics are cutting and her musical scope fairly eclectric on Avalanche, if you are new to her work or have recently been introduced to her via her latest album, Harpo's Ghost, then this would be a valuable addition to your collection. Everything comes together perfectly on the track Pirate Moon, my own favourite, and proof indeed that Thea gilmore produces music which can scale the heights ofthe very best female artists such as Tori Amos and Suzanne Vega.
