Search for and buy this book!
A beautiful book about a timeless concept. I bought it, as it is the highest achievement of Pauline Baynes, illustrator to CS Lewis and JRR Tolkein. She was especially known for the historical accuracy she brought to books such as A Dictionary of Chivalry by Grant Uden (1968), which won her the esteemed Kate Greenaway Medal. On reading, I have found it to be equally well written by Grant Uden. An illustration of lessons learned over many centuries.
