    Nikon Zoom-Nikkor 28-80mm F/3.3-5.6 Aspherical AF G Lens

"Better than it has any right to be"
Why the quotation marks? Because the great Ken Rockwell said it before I did. In fact, because of his review, I bought this lens - again and again and again. I sell cameras. This cheap little plastic body lens can be had on ebay for about $40 or so. It pairs very well with the Nikon D70, and it takes better pictures than any cheap little plastic bodied lens has a right to. The f/3.5-5.6 version is pretty good too, but not as good as this little gem. Buy one and enjoy it. One note of caution: This is an AF lens - it doesn´t have a motor built in, so you won´t get auto-focus if you have a D50, D60, D3000 series or D5000 series camera. If that´s your situation, there´s an easy solution. Put said camera up for sale on ebay and buy a D70, D80, D90, or D200 (one of the great bargains right now). If you want to make the guys with a D7100, D600 or D800 envious of your photos, buy a Fuji S5 Pro (or an S3 Pro if you´re on a budget). This lens, and all Nikon lenses from Ai on forward will function flawlessly with those cameras.

Nikon D200 DSLR with MB-D200 Vertical Grip, AA Battery Holder and Extras

The D200 is a classic of Pro-sumer bodies.
The D200 is a classic of Pro-sumer bodies, with emphasis on the "Pro" part. It's durable, heavy, solid, weather-sealed and, unlike the newer D3000 and D5000 series camera, it has a focus motor in the camera body. This means that you get auto-focus with the best quality AF Nikon lenses, not just the plastic/fantastic AF-s lenses. The menu is adequate, the image quality is better than any comparably priced Canon, and the selection of Nikon optics is superb. The Fujifilm S5 Pro is built on this same, excellent body. Although discontinued by Fuji, the S5 Pro is still the best digital camera in the world for taking pictures of people. No, there's no contest; the Fuji has a unique design of sensor ("Super CCD") with octagonal pixel sensors. It takes digital pictures that don't look like digital pictures - they look like film. Starting with a D200 makes the transition to the superior S5 Pro much easier, as your hands will already be used to that body, and all your lenses and other accessories (except batteries and A/C adapter) will still fit and function exactly correctly. At about $120.00 for a used D200 in good condition, this is currently one of the best bargains in photography.
Nikon D70s 6.1 MP Digital SLR Camera - Black (Body Only)

    The D70, an affordable classic
The Nikon D70 - a classic masterpiece of a camera, that can be had for about $50.00. This camera has all the features that a sophisticated amatuer or professional on a budget needs. The flash sinc of 1/500 of a second is faster than anything you´re likely to come across any time soon - even if you spend $2,000.00.. Flash sinc matters. The six megapixel resolution might seem to be too little, but this is of very little importance in almost all photography. More megapixels are primarily for people who want to crop their photos. You´re better off using the zoom on your lens, and taking the picture of what you want to see. Six megapixels in a DX (APS-C) sensor means that each pixel is about 4 times as large as that found in a D5200 or D7100. This results in a plethora of image related benefits, especially when you need to close the apature for either a group shot or macro work. Read up on difraction limitaion before you spend 10 times the price of a D70 on a dumb D5200 or a dumber D3200. Likewise, stupid ISO ratings (like 12,800) are just more crap to help sell new cameras. You almost never need more than ISO 800. Buy faster glass, but watch the depth of field. There´s a motor in this camera, so you can use the AF Nikkor lenses - generally higher quality glass and generally cheaper. Hold an AF-s 55-200mm in one hand and an AF 70-210mm in the other, if you want to make a comparison of build quality. So much for a ten year recycle life. I sell cameras, and I teach photography to the pros who buy my wares. Many have "graduated" from their D3000 or D5000 series cameras to a D70, and learned photography. For another $10.00, you can get an adapter to let you use cheap SD memory cards in your D70. I highly recommend this spectacular bargain of a camera.
