Interesting concept, not unique though.
Josephine Tey's Daughter of time is the yardstick for this type of crime story, but, they differ enough for Colin Dexter's novel to stand alone, making this a really good read. The ending unfortunately, is a little weak after such a build-up. Otherwise, well worth the read.

As a avid reader of Sax Rohmer, it's interesting to shut ones eyes and just listen. Great stuff.
