Kirby G4 Upright Vacuum Cleaner
The Kirby G4 is an excellent tool about the house. The adjustable height feature for cleaning different carpet types makes it highly efficient at its job. The tools cover just about every cleaning requirement including shampoo attachment. The wheels are power assisted; pushing it is so easy, its lighter than you could imagine.
Possible downsides: without the motor running (wheels are not power assisted) its a bit on the heavy side. Lifting the machine too is quite difficult unless you're young and strong. Putting the tools on and off, whilst its been exceptionally well designed and thought-through is still a bit of a mither. You have to be careful about what you pick up when the tubing is attached - anything other than general dust and dirt could damage the turbine blades just behind the face plate. The suction on the tubing however, is amazing!
Consumables can be expensive - shop around (Ebay is great for bags, belts etc).
All in all, highly recommended. I would definitely recommend getting one. Watch your deal price though c. £2,500 list price is very high.
If you have a lot of wood or laminated flooring though - I'd suggest a second bag-less cylinder vac, a cheapish one would do but you don't have to worry about what it's picking up.

These are, in my experience, one of the best seam rippers. Look around for a good deal, but they're worth the bit extra. The cheap ones will pull at your stitches, these just glide through the thread leaving a crisp cut. Also great for opening button holes.
