Very fast AF
Like most of the this Pentax-*- range of zooms this one delivers very good though not exceptional results - and believe it or not EBay refused to accept the letter between E and G in the description, saying it was swearing! Autofocus is very fast indeed and it usually locks on in decent light, The worse the light the more the hunting (OK this isn't a £1K job - give it a break!). Similarly, IQ suffers slightly at the long end but mproves as you stop down. Generally, images are sharp, contrasty and well saturated. Benefits from a hood, which are easy to find (49mm) due to the front element being literally right at the front. Build quality is good. Excellent value and no disappointment.

Cheap as chips and works a treat
An IR release is key for taking crisp photographs using a tripod. These cost peanuts (dunno how they do it) and they are simplicity itself to use. I got an extra one as a backup but have never needed to use it yet. Absolutely recommended.

Top quality and suitable for most painting uses
These are absolutely perfect for that new, water based, "quick drying" varnish that you see everywhere today. They make 'quick drying' sound like a benefit when actually they can't stop it drying quickly so you need a brush that will not leave bristle marks and that will minimise bubbles because you don't have time to fuss before the stuff goes tacky.
DO wash them thoroughly, taking care to leave no residue around the metal bit. That way they will last a very long time - mine are going strong after several years (but I've just bought a back-up set in case!).
