The best way to start learning French is Pimsleur.
3 of 3 found this helpful This is the first of 3 Pimsleur titles (French I, II, III) that teach French by spoken repetition and recall. I tried to learn French in college many years ago, but never got past verb conjugation and all the rules of grammar. Pimsleur is different, because the concentration is on learning by listening, which is the way young children learn a language. I have been able to listen to the cassettes while commuting to work, and I find it makes the time go by quickly. I also feel like I am really accomplishing something other than listening to endless news reports or music on the radio.
Having completed all 30 of the half-hour lessons, I can understand some basic conversations by native speakers, who speak fairly quickly. I can also respond to questions in French, and I think my pronunciation is acceptable. I have been inspired to get the next set of tapes, French II, and am dedicated to finishing the whole learning process.
With Pimsleur, it's the learning technique that makes it so valuable. After a while, word combinations start to come naturally. I would purchase Pimsleur's French I all over again. I also learned that the cassette versions are less pricey on eBay than the CD's. I bought cassettes even though my truck's stereo system can play either CD's or cassettes. Thanks to eBay I can learn a foreign language for a very reasonable price.

This important book is a "must read" for all Americans.

She is a gifted writer, and her plan to combat this threat is realistic and tremendously important. You need to read this book.

Sweat Is An Issue
This is a quality product, but I was disappointed when I wore it on a hot day and found that my sweat caused a line to be left on the front edge of the cap. I had a previous Navy hat that was blue instead of black and never had this kind of problem.
