Does what I want
I'm using it as a voltage dropper with a permanent small load and a small total load. It's in a plastic box with another one alongside. Early on there was a pop and smoke from one of them and the load smoked as well. An output cap had gone bang. I replaced it and surprisingly it worked, but only for a minute. I bought another one and every time I switched it on it too went pop but without the smoke and without destroying the load. Output voltage remained stable. I've yet to pull it all apart to see what's been happening but after a week of this the popping stopped so whatever has been going wrong has finally reached its end point (probably another cap). The other unit hasn't had any problems. For what it is I think it's good value. I can't see what's wrong with 48V in and 12V out. I can't see why a switch on surge should be causing this trouble either but I'm not put off by it.

It's a plastic wig
It will do the job it was bought for. Reviews such as this can never sensibly comment on longevity
