Good Basic Overlocker
As a starter machine I don't think you could do better. It'll do two types of stitch (using three or four threads) and once it's been threaded the first time you can change thread colour just by attaching the new threads to the old ones and pulling them through. Easy, apart from having to just rethread through the one or two needles, but you can get needle threading gadgets to help with this.
The differential feed is a bonus for helping to stretch jersey sewing to keep the seams straight, or for putting frills into hems if you want to.
It has everything else you'd expect: adjusters for stitch width & length, and a knife which cuts the material to the right width to fill the overlock stitching exactly. You can stitch with the knife swung out of use if you want.
The manual is good with helpful advice on how to set up the best thread tensions for various materials.
The stitching produced is excellent; even with no missed stitches.
The only thing missing is a thread cutter which means you have to keep a pair of scissors handy to cut your work away from the machine at the end of each stitch run but this is only a minor quibble.

Pricey but genuine.
Wanted this to replace one which had gone noisy after 177K miles. Only genuine Ford spares available so this one was exactly the same part as the one I removed. A bit pricey but I suppose you have to pay for all that storage over the years (engine only fitted until 2007, I believe). Engine now back to sewing-machine smoothness.

Really Useful Little Diary
This high quality diary is small enough to fit easily in my handbag; comes with pen holder and nice, blue biro; ribbon page marker; week to a view with space each week for extra notes; space for three months worth of next years notes; a removable booklet for addresses; and lots of useful info (maps, world times, etc). It's all covered in smart, leather-effect vinyl with the corners of the cover reinforced with gold-plated trims. There aren't many diaries which come with a pen, so this one is perfect for planning and noting things quickly when you're out and don't want to fiddle with a phone keypad. Pricey, but worth it!
