90's heavy alt-rock at it's finest
I've only owned one L7 CD and "Hungry for Stink" is it. This purchase was a replacement for the one long lost. Interestingly enough the need for this CD was triggered by the last song on Prodigy--Fat of the Land, which I had dug out of the "not listened to recently" area of my CD library. "Fuel my Fire" is on both CDs. Once I recognized it was an L7 song to ebay I did come to find this gem. From the opening track "Andres" through "Baggage", "Riding with a Movie Star", "Freak Magnet" and "Shirley" the whole disc just keeps hammering heavy metal/90's Alt rock at you blow after blow. This band of Femme Fatales is great stuff.

THE high-water mark for this Prog-Rock Metal Band!
Queensryche, musically, is probably one of the greatest bands since Led Zeppelin. Empire is their most-recognized disc. I was ecstatic to find this CD on Gold. I've been a Queensryche fan for 2 decades now, but oddly enough this is my first copy of Empire. Queensryche has always been a band on the move. Never afaid to evolve, their music seems to change and progress with each new release. Although this title is their undisputed best-seller with the classic hits "Jet City Woman", "Empire","Another Rainy Night (Without You)" and their staple rock ballad "Silent Lucidity", it is their previous album, Operation: Mindcrime, that endeared the band to it's fans. Nevertheless, Empire is incredible on Gold. Digitally remastered and layed onto a gold DCC disc instead of the cheap aluminum discs makes the difference if you are a true audiophile. I don't know that I am a "true audiophile", but I know I can hear the difference between these gold CDs and the more common aluminum ones. My wife can not. One word of caution: the DCC Gold version does NOT have the 3 extra songs that are now on the remastered, re-released version of this CD.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I bought this CD as a MFSL Gold disc. I am personally blown away by the dynamic sound reproduction that MFSL and Remastered Gold CD's offer. MFSL producing Gold CDs has actually opened my ears to a much broader appreciation of music than if they had never been created. Bands like The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Blind Faith, and Traffic--which are all in my MFSL collection--probably wouldn't have been, if not for MFSL. The same can be said for John Lennon. I've owned several Beatles discs in the past, but they've either been lost, stolen or sold, other than The White Album. I purchased Plastic Ono Band not really knowing what to expect, but from the reviews I'd read, it apparently is the best of Lennon's solo work. Having listened to it for the first time this morning I am amazed at how his stabs at politics, education, religion, and socio-economic discrepancies still are right on target 30+ years later. It's as if we've had our heads stuck in the sand this whole time. That right there is a pretty powerful statement about this Disc. Another thing that had gotten lost for me over the years is just how good John Lennon's voice is. His thought-provoking lirics aside, the guy just has a wonderful singing voice. Buy Plastic Ono Band, and buy it on MFSL Gold.
