Tab Repair - NOT!
On a cold morning I turned on my rear defroster and expected to see the cozy lines begin to melt the ice on my rear window, but instead got... nothing. Frustrated, I began googling thinking the switch went bad, a wire broke, etc. I never thought the tab falling off would be the problem. I bought this Permatex kit hopefully as the solution. I saw online it either gets 1 star reviews and doesn’t work, or 5 stars and it does. The directions clearly state that it must be 50 degrees or higher to complete the install. Being winter outside, I turned up the heat in the car and put a thermometer next to the rear window. I got the interior of the car up to 90 degrees and then used a heat gun on the exterior of the glass. I used some sandpaper on the clip to get rid of the old solder and create a fresh surface. I followed the directions and completed the repair. I had to move the clip slightly to a non damaged part of the heat grid. Knock on wood, after waiting the 24 hours for the adhesive to dry, I hit the switch and it worked!
Fast forward to a week later and it stopped working again. The tab is so securely mounted to the glass I am unable to remove it, however the solder / adhesive just stopped conducting electricity. I’m not sure why it would do that a week later after working just fine but this ended up just being a waste of time.

Almost a perfect fit...
This is ALMOST a perfect fit. You'll need to enlarge the holes in your cars cowl slightly where the two posts go through to mount the wiper arms. Also the original T-30 torx Ford mounting screws are a totally different thread then this part. Do yourself a favor and bring your new linkage with you to the hardware store to get four mounting screws. Even though it's pictured that it comes with new mounting screws it doesn't. And lastly, it comes with 12mm nuts to hold the arms on. The original 13mm nuts for the wiper arms hold the rubber caps on the arms, I used some RTV gasket to now hold the rubber caps on the smaller new nuts. An OEM part is nowhere to be found anymore, so you have no choice if you need this part in your 20 year old car. It seems to be of good quality however, I just wish I knew these three things before I began taking my car apart as it took extra time to keep having to overcome little obstacles.

Original Mopar!
1 of 1 found this helpful Not sure why Ram decided to not make this little light standard equipment, but buying it on eBay was almost half the price of what the local dealer wanted for the wiring harness and light assembly, The only thing it didn't come with was the little trim piece fastener to hold the light to the hood. Luckily, I had one laying around and didn't need to make a special trip to buy one. If you don't have one, bring the harness with you to get the correct size fastener as there's 4 or 5 built into the harness. Also, there's a dummy plug in the trucks harness you'll need to remove to plug the wires into. The entire install took less than 10 minutes and because it's Mopar, it fit perfectly in all the holes and plug that were in the truck. It looks factory!
