Nothing competes in this price bracket
Having previously owned a pair of grado 125's I was so impressed with the performance I upgraded to the 325is, between the two cans there is quite a leap in audible clarity and tonal balance, the other major improvement is the materials used, the 125's are constructed with cheap grade plastic but with the 325is you get aluminium and metal over the open back portion which helps airflow. The only let down is the same cheap feeling "headband" although this time around it's leather compared to the hard vinyl of the 125's. Sound wise these are the best cans I have heard in this price point, highs & lows are well defined and the midrange is spot on, personally I think these cans are quite warm, tonal and have a nice natural uncoloured bass, the stereo effect is also very good. Speakers of matching clarity would cost a few grand. Some people complain these cans are a bit "bright" but I do not really see the issue as I like the defined highs, I think coming from a "cheaper" can makes them feel "bright" because of the great hertz range they cover (18-24hz) which is plenty above and below the 20-20,000hz most people can distinguish. Apart from the slightly cheap feeling headband I have no quibbles at all, American made, years of technology behind them & a retro design (which I love) makes these headphones a must for the true "audiophile" who's bank is not overflowing, once you get to this level any can beyond offers minimal improvement without a dedicated headphone amp, & running at 32ohms pretty much any device from mp3 players to iPhones will drive these well.
