Everything I want as a writer
3 of 3 found this helpful It does everything it is supposed to do, and nothing more. Perfect portable distraction-free writing. The usb cable it needs to communicate with the computer is a pretty common printer cable. It has about 700 hours of battery life on 3 AA batteries, and automatically shuts itself off if you don't input anything within a certain amount of time. It saves automatically, lets you run 8 separate files, and can even spellcheck for you (albeit this is a grueling process I would save for when you're editing on the PC). There is no backlight, but the screen is made in such a way that it doesn't really have a negative impact. Bonus: it's made of this cool, sea-colored semi-transparent plastic, instead of just being black or beige or white or gray. The keys can be popped off and on for cleaning with no fuss. I really can't find anything to complain about. It weighs almost nothing. I can almost fit it in my purse. When you transfer a file to the computer, the thing just pretends it's a keyboard. Open up any word processor and hit "send" and it just starts retyping your work for you. No software, no drivers, no updates, and it will probably work with just about any computer.
I love this thing. It's a funky little piece of tech. It keeps me off the internet and keeps me from editing a sentence as soon as I write it. I can take it alll over the house with me, or even drag it to a coffee shop if I felt so inclined. If you're considering one of these because you're a writer with a focus problem, then I say yes! Do the thing! From the right person you can get one for under $20. I even named mine, I love it so much.
