not a brilliant design
pro - inexpensive relative to other under-counter filters, relatively easy to change filter cartridges
con - very poorly designed o-ring sealing system, notorious for leaking, many users on other online fora have reported water damage due to leaking under sink which goes undetected until it's too late. i bought this only because i had a set of expensive replacement cartridges for my pre-existing unit which i couldn't bear to throw away unused. the previous unit leaked not only through the o-rings, a problem which i temporarily mitigated by use of teflon thread-sealing tape, but also developed a crack in the housing, which i consider due to another design shortcoming. and which was not feasible to repair so i bought the current purchase just so i could use the last set of replacement cartridges, and then toss the whole thing in favor of a completely new system...from a different mfr. unsurprisingly the mfr has discontinued this model, but their failure to conduct due diligence on this design has undermined my confidence that they might do better on successor designs.

expensive but a good value in today's market
terrific stuff. good quality methanol is getting harder and harder to find now that fewer consumers are using it.

does what it's supposed to do
not much to say here, it holds the friction pads in place exactly as advertised.
