Bridging the gap between point-and-shoot and digital SLRs!
7 of 7 found this helpful I'm very pleased with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40. The 24x optical zoom is amazing, and the options for different ways to use it, from point-and-shoot to using the vast array of manual controls, allows the photographer to grow in his understanding of the capabilities of this camera. The ability to zoom in and out while using the Movie function is a feature i appreciate. I was a bit intimidated with the 223 pages of instructions on the CD, and was relieved to find there was also a much shorter version in print that comes with the camera. It will take me a while to become familiar with all this camera can do, but I am sure I will enjoy the process. As someone whose previous camera was a Panasonic Lumix point-and-shoot digital with a 4x optical zoom (the DMC-FS42), this camera represents a large step up both in complexity and in features offered. At $339, I felt it was well priced for the buyer who did not want to go for the much more expensive digital SLRs.

A string broke in tuning
When I was putting the strings on, the A string snapped as I was tuning it. I was disappointed that it didn't reach the A tuning, leaving me with an incomplete set. I didn't over-wind it, as i was using a tuner to reach the required note.
I would appreciate a replacement of either the A string, or the complete set.
