Fire Down Below (DVD, 2004) Rita Hayworth, Robert Mitchum, Jack Lemmon
    18 Dec, 2023
"A Delightful DVD with a Bonus: Anthony Newley!"
Filmed on location in CinemaScope and Technicolor in Trinidad and Tobago, Columbia's 1957 Warwick Film Production, "Fire Down Below" is about two friends, Felix (ROBERT MITCHUM) and Tony (JACK LEMMON) who do odd jobs on their boat, the "Ruby", along with Jimmy Jean (EDRIC CONNOR). The two chums soon begin to bicker with each other when both fall in love with beautiful Irena (RITA HAYWORTH). The film is very enjoyable with lovely Calypso music, such as "Limbo Like Me" sung at the front credits (where the year 1957 in Roman numerals, MCMLVII, is texted mistakenly as "MDCCCCLVII") superimposed over a captivating Limbo Dance by "Stretch" Cox and his Troupe. Jeri Southern performs the euphonious title song. My favourite part of "Fire Down Below" is when the then 26-year-old Anthony Newley appears hilariously as Miguel, a bartender coaxing Felix and Tony to take the passportless Irena to another island for $500 initially. This highly amusing sequence shows Miguel, the go-between for an American businessman (LIONEL MURTON) who foots Irena's seafare, eventually getting only $200 for himself after Felix and Tony agree to take Irena on a no-frills "cruise"! Hence, for me, "Fire Down Below" is a delight, even better and brighter on my high-definition television set connected by an HDMI cable to my DVD player.
The Girl Next Door Film CD-Rom Digital Press Kit + Booklet
    23 May, 2023
Useful Old Film Press Kit with Complete Credits!
“The Girl Next Door” is a 2004 film press kit which comprises a CD-rom of movie stills and a booklet of production notes placed in a plastic DVD case. This press kit is a lovely and rare form of film memorabilia because current USA film studios no longer issue such a tangible item for publicity purposes. “The Girl Next Door” press kit provides ample information on the film, like the story outline, how the film got into production, notes on the main cast and crew members, as well as the complete list of the lengthy cast and credits that appear at the start and end of the movie. The detailed cast and credit list is no longer included in the production notes of the latest movies on the Internet, and thus, “The Girl Next Door” press kit is a real gem as it has all the film credits printed in its production handbook.
"DON'T THINK I'VE FORGOTTEN": CAMBODIA'S LOST ROCK & ROLL FILM SOUNDTRACK RSD
    20 Jun, 2016
"A Wonderful and Unique Film Soundtrack of Early Cambodian Rock & Roll"
This two-LP soundtrack produced by John Pirozzi, director of the film, "Don't Think I've Forgotten", is a rare and unique collection of 1960s to early 1970s Cambodian music influenced by the West. One can no longer find or buy original vinyl records of such music in Cambodia today as Khmer Rouge soldiers were very efficient in destroying them during Pol Pot's terrifying rule of Cambodia from 17 April 1975 to 7 January 1979, when two million Cambodians, mostly innocent, were cruelly murdered to create Pol's Communist agrarian utopia. The 1984 Academy Award-winning film, "The Killing Fields", provides a realistic glimpse of Pol's fiasco of a utopia. Pirozzi worked industriously to find diehard vinyl collectors to produce the soundtrack. He even has an English translation of Khmer lyrics of some songs in the soundtrack on the "Don't Think I've Forgotten" film website for those who wish to have a better understanding of the meaning of the songs. The two LPs have beautiful songs and music performed by famous Cambodian artistes like Sinn Sisamouth, Ros Serey Sothea and Pen Ran, who were all executed by the Khmer Rouge. Fortunately, the Mol brothers of the guitar band, Baksey Cham Krong, are still alive as they managed to flee from war-torn Cambodia then. Listen to Sisamouth's "Dance A Go Go" and "Navy A Go Go" or Baksey Cham Krong's "B.C.K." and "Full Moon", and you may want to play the songs over and over again as the music is melodious, infectious and soothing. The "Don't Think I've Forgotten" soundtrack is a treasure for those who love or want to listen to early Cambodian rock and roll.
