Does exactly what is required. I needed one for a laptop being used on a stand where the headphone socket is on the front and my favourite headphones only had a straight connection.

Typical Sony Quality

As a Sony officiando (nearly all my hi-fi is Sony) this deck (a JE530, not 520 as it says above) delivers the usual Sony quality and superb sound I have come to expect, even with 'bread and butter' products. Having a choice of optical and coaxial inputs allows 3 sources when you take the normal analogues into account. There's a optical output as well if needed. Everything works as well as it did when it was new and the sound is great. I'm mainly using the unit to record from radio, for which it is absolutely brilliant. Drawbacks? I can think of only one and that's the lack of MDLP as in later decks but that does mean you're not tempted to compromise on recorded sound quality!

Great improvements if a little expensive

Significant improvement in sound. Damping and lubrication improvements have made a significant improvement to my deck. Motor damping rings do stop use of adjustment spring for motor mount.. Vinyl mat is white and not black as in photos..
