Well worth it
I was interested in this title as I had read Gwynne’s Latin book. It is, perhaps rather like his other book, deliberately tendentious by way of an instinct for tradition. This book may not please everyone - there is always the default criticism of the lay scholar that it lacks explicit theoretical positioning. However, there are many notes and observations which were new to me, and I remain surprised at how ignorant I am of some of Gwynne’s preferred sources. If you have a genuine interest in British history, you will find something of novelty and interest.
