He makes me laugh at the human condition and he spares no group with his satire
Pratchett was the best satirist and the nearest thing to a true philosopher the twentieth century produced. His books are often laugh out loud funny but there is real depth to be mined there too.

Terry Pratchett develops characters that are incredibly compelling.
Pratchett is one of the greatest satirists of all time. No government, religion or group of any kind is spared from his often hilarious repartee. He creates a new world, Discworld, which is flat, and carried on the back of a giant turtle through space. He populates Discworld with werewolves, vampires, dwarves, trolls, witches and other humans, and some creatures too fantastic to describe in a few words. Somehow, he makes them all believable. Some of the characters recur in many stories, and many become personal favorites. In "Witches Abroad", Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg are two such characters. He often deals with serious themes, but never fails to make me laugh out loud.
