Built like a tank. Does not play Mini DV tapes recorded in LP Mode.

This unit will NOT play any MINI DV tapes that were recorded in LP MODE. So, I can not speak to the image quality of the unit. I had to learn the hard way. Otherwise it is built like a tank. If you have dvcam tapes and mini DV recorded in SP mode I think you would be happy with one of these. I do not have any DVACM tapes, or tapes recorded in SP mode. So I have not tried a DVCAM or SP Recorded MINI DV in the unit I purchased.

This was a good buy for the price. I hacked it and put 12 v Dc to it. Now it is a stand alone back light for scanning transparency's.
