Sealey MS040 Motorcycle Steering Stem Bearing Race Removal Motorbike Tool New
    19 Sep, 2017
    Just the job
For steering head bearings I've previously just used a big screwdriver and copper hammer and not had any issues but I thought I'd give this a go. Good job I did as once I stripped down the SFV650 I was working on there were no cutouts to accommodate a drift: it would have been difficult to get any purchase without a specialist tool. This is a simple tool but solid, well made and does the job well - hook the lip behind the race, tighten up and knock it out from behind. It won't pull blind bearings but as it says on the tin it's designed for steering heads.

Proper part at a proper price
It's a genuine part at a good price. I've see big brand aftermarket front sprockets rattling on the drive shaft due to not fitting properly and would only ever use genuine or OEM. One oddity was that the chain was supplied with exactly the right number of links but unbroken, meaning it has to be broken, destroying a link, to put it on the bike. The replacement link is included, but I've never seen this before I don't understand why it is done. I can't see anyone removing a swingarm to put an unbroken chain.
