Bulin 1.5L Heat Exchanger Pot Portable Camping Pot Outdoor Cookware S2400
    06 Apr, 2018
    A very efficient heat-exchange pot
If you want boiling water as fast as possible, get this pot. I'm an ultra-light backpacker (also known as a "gram-weenie") who works hard to save weight in my pack. For longer trips and group trips, one way to save weight is to save fuel with a heat-exchanger pot over a small, butane-canister stove. This Bulin 1.5-liter HX pot isn't the lightest option out there, but it is the most efficient of the 7 HX pots I own and have tested and one of the most affordable. In addition to the usual fins on the bottom of the pot (not shown in the photos in this listing), the hot gases are then conducted up along the bottom sides of the pot for a little more heat transfer. If you want to heat water as quickly as possible, use this pot and put your stove on high. If you want to use as little fuel as possible, use this pot and have your stove on a medium setting. There have been times on snow-camping trips when I melted most of the snow for the whole group because it happens so much faster in a HX pot. I've also commandeered the only burner in a New Zealand group hut because I had a HX pot and could boil water for 20 people's soup and hot chocolate faster than any other set up. The lid is nice. I really like the small handle on the lid because it folds down for storage and IT STAYS UP for use (that's rare). The lid's handle is plastic-coated and tolerable to pick-up bare handed. The pot handle is nice, also plastic-coated, and it clicks into place to the side during use and clicks into place above the lid to retain the lid during packing. But neither the lid nor the handle are as light as possible. If you want to save as much weight as possible, leave the lid at home and use a carbon-fiber lid or a piece of aluminum foil. And remove the handle and use a bandana to lift the pot. A 220-gram or 450-gram butane canister fits easily inside the pot for efficient packing with enough extra room for a lighter, BRS-3000T stove, small scrubbie sponge, and bandana/microfiber towel fragment. I pair it with a BRS-3000T stove ($11-$14-$16 depending on seller and exchange rates) for a very light (0.9 ounce stove), compact system. Here are the actual weights of what I received (this is very hard to discern from most listings for gear): Everything, including the cardboard box: 15.2 ounces, 429 grams Pot, lid, handles, and mesh bag: 12.1 ounces, 344 grams Pot lid, handles: 11.0 ounces, 313 grams (as much as I would ever take on a trip) Pot and its handle: 9.5 ounces, 270 grams Pot only (handle removed) 8.0 ounces, 227 grams (how I often use it, plus a piece of aluminum foil) Lid only: 1.6 ounces, 43 grams Pot handle by itself: 1.5 ounces, 42 grams In summary: it's not the lightest HX pot, but it is more efficient than others and far cheaper than name-brand ones. For $40-45, you can have a pot AND stove that is as (or a bit more) fuel efficient and more versatile (because you can swap pot and stove) than a $100 JetBoil package.
Genuine Honda 06928-768-020AH Snow Blower Cover Fits HS928 HS1132 Red Logo OEM
    06 Apr, 2018
    High quality, snug fit.
My Honda 928 snow-blower with tracks is circa 2011. I had an original Honda cover that I got at the time from the dealer for it that was a bit snug but worked fine. Then, in addition to my usual grinding up of the morning paper in the driveway, I ground-up the corner of my original cover as it lay under the snow. Oops. So I got this cover in late 2017. It is the same high quality. The fabric of the original held up fine for 6 years of summer sun. The elastic around the base is very stretchy (it needs to be). It is a bit tighter than the older cover I had. Some of that is that the elastic around the base is snugger. It also seems to have a bit less fabric overall. Where previously, I could put the older, slightly larger cover over the snow blower in any configuration, now I need to turn the discharge chute towards the center and lower the chute's deflector make it less tall. I also have to work a little harder to wiggle it first over the handles, then over the engine&chute, then tuck the elastic under the back part of my tracks, and finally, I put the cover over the feed-auger housing (the very front of the blower). It's enough of a tight fit that I've added one thing to my routine: I use a velcro cinch-strap to hold down the two dead-man handles. First I depress the right lever, and then the left (which locks the right one down) and then I secure the left dead-man lever to keep the whole snow blower slightly less tall and slightly lower in volume. An upside, I suppose, of the tighter fit is there's no way it's getting blown off even in very high winds. A suggestion: on a nice day, or inside the garage, use it a few times, make sure you have it in the proper orientation, and then mark the "front", "back", "left" and "right" sides with a Sharpie. That makes it a lot easier to get it oriented when it's cold, dark and snowy. In summary: high quality fabric, looks good, protects the blower from UV damage over the summer, keeps snow and ice out of the mechanisms in winter, but harder to put on than the older version.
4pc Liquid Filled Button Compass Set for Watchband or Paracord Bracelet EDC
    26 Oct, 2015
Small, light, inexpensive, but slow to center
I ordered several for use in a EDC kit - a small kit of items to take on every hike. For that, these are great. Useable, compact, and can fit onto small to medium-width watch bands. While it is liquid-filled and well-dampened, it is either overly viscous or the magnet isn't very strong and it takes a while to reach equilibrium. That's fine for an emergency, but if I planned to run a compass course (I'd want a bigger compass) or move quickly like in orienteering, I'd want a faster-acting compass.
