Canon SX1 IS - Movie camera in a still camera body?
1 of 1 found this helpful I am slightly disappointed in the still quality of this camera, the lens quality lets it badly down. Moving from a Lumix ( FZ30 with its Leica lens ) I found that the images lacked clarity, contrast and punch. I purchased the camera because I wanted to try movie as well as still photography and the reviews seemed to indicate that this camera, with its CMOS sensor, was the best of both worlds. The Lumix is now three years old and was the same price as the Canon, so they should be a match for each other but having taken about 400 pictures on the Canon I really do not feel that it is as good. I suspect that this camera has more than just the sensor and the software from the movie range. Generally a reasonable camera to use but do not expect an improvement in your picture taking, the lens suffers strong colour edging in many of its pictures. Plus points are the movie modes and the RAW ability using the firmware update. Negatives are: No support for the new MAC 10.6 operating system. The joy pad is easily turned and is not user friendly. This is one of those cameras that you pick up and think..... why? It could be so much better but like a hybrid car, it is a stop gap and not really there. Decide on your priority and if it is good clear quality still images, then go elsewhere.

Robust and good value for money
Considering the price this is a very nice handy box that could be used for many things.

Cheaper than replacing a scratched screen.
This device has a large screen which can easily scratch when moving it around the car. Like a lot of people I tend to remove it from the front, where it is obvious, to the back, when parked. Often this involves placing it on the floor, etc. So a good screen protector is a cheap option. One thing to note though, ensure that you order the size via the LMT-D code. The drivesmart is available as a six inch screen size and this seems to be most common on the continent, buy the D size is seven inches.
