Bench Dog 4 Piece Bench Cookie Plus Kit - 641629
    21 May, 2023
Durable, anti-skid and protective of all dry surface finishes.
I've used these bench dogs on and off for years as a full-time joiner and cabinet maker and for panels or work pieces that require protection from scratching and/or require lateral grip with full surface access for cleaning, sanding, trimming or routing such as lipped doors they are ideal, especially with an uneven over/underhang that would cause rocking if laid flat on a bench. The only improvements I would suggest are to make them square and twice the size as options with a deeper cushion or fully padded/overlaid perimeter so that heavier panels or doors can be turned over on a pair without denting them when resting on the corners of the edges, as this compresses the pads to the point of contacting the hard plastic rings around the cookies, so care must be taken. It's worth buying two sets, (as I just have), for larger panels as four are not enough to prevent sagging between supported points on 18mm or thinner materials when downforce is applied with a Bosch trimmer, for example, as the optional semicircular chip guard can contact the bench otherwise. Also, if you're in a production environment like me and constantly rotating rectangular panels ninety degrees that require two different layouts of cookies, having more of them will mean not having to reposition them every time if there is no happy medium, such as a panel twice its width in length. Durability is excellent but if you twist heavy edges on them when walking panels diagonally to turn them over it can scrape off the foam rubber but my original set are still perfectly usable despite a few lumps missing here and there. Adhesion is almost too good as sometimes one will get stuck to the underside of a panel and fall on the floor when the panel is lifted, which can be annoying if it rolls away but a minor concern and I wouldn't change the material used, only its thickness which is still more than adequate in the vast majority of cases.
Organic Dates (Pitted Deglet Nour) - Forest Whole Foods
    31 Dec, 2019
Too many bad ones to enjoy eating as a snack.
Unlike the same dates sold in Sainsbury's in the typical plastic trays, all of which are edible, these were a mix of either new and old stock or soft and leathery degrees of dryness, as half of them are what I would describe as, "Well past their sell by dates", if you'll excuse the pun. I'm sure a hungry camel wouldn't notice though. The 5kg bag I bought started out OK but after the top few handfuls they just seemed like two different batches, one hidden under the other. Whether this was intentional or not, I will never know for sure.

A frighteningly good movie! Genius! A MUST SEE!
I randomly saw this on ebay and I thought, "Hey, looks quite well produced from the cover jacket" and Robert Englund stars, of Freddy Kruger fame from 'Nightmare On Elm Street' and 'V', (his most compelling performance for me as an Extra-terrestrial invader torn between obeying orders and helping the humans to escape capture by his fellow reptillian leaders - another must see), so I thought it has to be worth watching. Naturally the actresses - and they were all cast and acted superbly - were purely a secondary concern, being mainly attracted to the storyline and the deep message the movie attempts to convey. I forget what it was but it's really important so buy the dvd, ok! Seriously, this has some of the best political satire (or is it commentary?) I've seen. Kind of along the lines of '28 Days Later' mixed with 'V for Vendetta' - yet other must see movies but with philosophical themes throughout, for those with a higher than average I.Q. This one has something for everyone (over 18) and make-up and animatronics to satisfy Stan Winston fans (who I thought must have done the robotics), this is better than you could imagine it could be for this type of 'subject matter', shall we say?! By blending two overtly 'base' genres (i.e. nudity and gratuitous bloody violence) and adding a sound politically honest storyline as the pretext for all that follows, director Jay Lee pulled off more than limbs and heads; this should become a cult classic for generations to come! Speaking of which, anyone expecting to see nothing but fully naked women, will be slightly disappointed, not that there aren't any, it's just that unless you get off on blood spattered faces and breasts, except at the beginning it all gets predictably 'messy', which doesn't turn me on, thankfully! The story is so fast paced and compelling that it's not really appropriate to be aroused by it. One of the best films I've seen, certainly of this genre. Parts of it could have been produced by Quentin Tarantino, they were that good. I watched it twice straight through, firstly with normal sound and then with commentary which I've only ever done with 'Chopper' and maybe 'Saving Private Ryan', two other absolute must sees if you like gritty reality based movies with obvious liberties taken for dramatic effect. As the cover of 'Chopper' states, "The truth, the half truth and nothing like the truth. Zombie Strippers is worth watching just for the 40-50 or so minutes of deleted scenes as it includes an uncannily well acted homage to Bill Duke's character in 'Predator' when he does his 'respects and revenge monologue'. Unfortunately it was edited out, presumably as it was just too good a performance and was too easily recognisable for what it was, which apart from the script, just wouldn't fit in with the rest of the film's more upbeat tempo. Hopefully it will land the actor more work though, as he must have spent some considerable time perfecting it. Do yourself a favour and buy this now; you could not possibly regret it unless you're a complete Zombie yourself! 10/10
