Fire Pistons at their best!!!
1 of 1 found this helpful To start with; I usually do not write product reviews, I expect the item to be as advertised and do what it is supposed to do. But I think this is an exceptional unit. well made and something I could rely on if I really needed it in an emergency. When you open the package you find a brass tube that is smooth and well finished and a machined solid aluminum rod with the O-ring installed. I fitted the parts together and found they went together smoothly and the rod slid up and down nicely. So far-so good. The instructions for use are quite simple and clear, easy to follow: so out to the garage I wen to see if the thing really works. I cut a piece of char cloth about 1/4 by 1/2 inch and balled it up and placed in the end of the piston. put the piston in the cylinder, set the whole contraption on the workbench and gave it a whack with the heel of my hand. I was surprised when the piston only went down about 3/4 of the way, I decided to check my results anyway. Behold a glowing ember, which I transferred to a larger piece of char cloth and got it going, The whole operation took about 3 to 4 minutes, to get a usable ember. Highly recommended product. If you guys are considering such a purchase, get to good one with the handle on the piston. I see some out there with just a bare rod, I kid you not, if you hit a bare rod with you hand it is going to smart something fierce. Spend the extra 5 bucks and get the good one.
