Great choice for campervan and backpacking
Good range of meal choices. Light weight and compact. Easy to prepare. Great taste. Satisfyingly filling. No washing up!

Excellent long burning fire lighter
I tested the UST product as part of a wide ranging review of fire starters. At £2.49 for 12 they are not excessively expensive, though obviously much more so than ones from some supermarkets. The material is similar though not exactly the same but sticks break and tear in much the same way and when scraped produce a similar fine fluff.
The similarity to other test subjects gave me some confidence and sure enough the fluff on these bars also lit from sparks. The flame then soon became established in the rest of the bar. With a pile of sticks added they quickly developed a substantial little fire and when I removed them from under the sticks both they and the tinder continued to burn independently. They gave off some light smoke but with little odour. The difference from cheaper samples however came in the rate of combustion. Although the level of flame was entirely adequate, burn time of the USTs extended to 15 minutes and 12 seconds before the flame extinguished.
A section I’d had floating in a water dish also performed well. It was wet on the outside but the water had not penetrated beyond that and when I opened up and fluffed the inner surface of the bar it lit from sparks on first strike of the ferro rod. The piece that had been in the water did seem more fragile. It broke up readily to finger pressure and yet the broken pieces took the flame and burned as if totally dry.

Good product for my uses.
Bought mainly to use the hole punch for making DIY backpacking stoves. Works very well. Good clean-sided holes in all the cans on which I've used it.
