Vintage Beethoven
A fine performance of the symphony from a younger Solti, alive and sympathetic, well played and free from either mannerism or the hectic overdriving that sometimes ruined some of his work. Mischa Elman gives a characterful performance of the Beethoven although he was technically a little past his best by that time. Fine musicianship carries the day and for the most part Solti keeps with him. To buy this LP would cost a three figure sum these days hence making this disc a great bargain.
