The Good Stuff!

Here and Now
Maharidge and Williamson present us with a picture of this country in the days following 9/11. Williamson's photographs show us and the words of Maharidge tell us what they found in the Heartland. What they found is US, the citizens of a bitter country who focussed our hatred on all the wrong people for all the wrong reasons. It should be required reading for those with hate in our hearts and minds. Maharidge brings the book to a close with a proverb "e-mailed to me by the writer and editorTom Englehardt not long after 9/11, about a Native- American grandfather and his grandson. The grandfather tells the boy he is troubled."
"I feel I have two wolves fighting in my heart," the grandfather says. "One wolf is the vengeful, angry, violent one. the other wolf is the loving, compassionate one."
"Which wolf will win the fight in your heart, Grandpa?"
"The one I feed."
Maharidge and Williamson show us that, more often than not, we feed the wrong one.
