Great recipe book
1 of 1 found this helpful Typical Jamie recipes. All visually compelling and delicious.
The good thing is that these are all really quick to prepare and cooking times are generally short. The added bonus is that you generally only use one pan so washing up is minimal.
A few recipes do call for some pretty obscure ingredients which can be hard to find. I've tried around a dozen so far and all very successful.

Disappointing
A few maps would help as would guides to pronunciation of gaelic names.
Trouble is that a short history, as per the title, is just too damn short. Far too many facts in too short a space. Not entertaining or educational at all

Promised much - sad on the delivery
It is very rare that I give up on a book part way through so I kept going with this one but I rather wish I hadn't bothered. The basic concept is good and it could have been compelling but sadly it became a drudge of a read.
Normally all the various characters and sub plots come together at the end and a good writer will have the reader enthralled at how cleverly all those plots combine. Sadly, this one had too many sub plots which, on completion, seemed totally irrelevant with too many twists and characters not seeming to add much to the overall story. Maybe I missed something.
The conclusion, if you can call it that, was a surprise but not in a good way - the proverbial damp squib and I really was left wondering "what on earth was that all about."
