Good reference for rare subjects
Osprey always provides concise references with accurate texts and good photos and artwork; this book is no exception. This brief summary of the I-boats--omitting the transports, midgets and kaiten subs--is packed with worthwhile pictures and data.
At just 48 pages, it isn't long enough, yet it's a survey rather than a comprehensive resource. However, it's reasonably priced and I thought the cover artwork was worth the cost in and of itself!

Blondie: The Hunter (CD)
'The Hunter' was Blondie's last album before the band's reunion over 20 years later; it was not a success in its time and so it's somewhat hard to find nowadays. Nonetheless, I think several of the songs on this neglected album are excellent. The jaded tone of 'The Hunter' distinguishes it from the previous albums, reflecting the difficulties that broke up Blondie shortly after this record's release.
Included among the gems on this disc is an unused song for the James Bond movie 'For Your Eyes Only.' Sheena Easton's recording of it was selected for the film after Blondie's effort was rejected. The Blondie version is faster and darker than Easton's, emphasizing action over romance. It would have made a memorable Bond song I'm sure!
I loved the first and title tracks especially, the last one sounding a bit like the jazz songs Debbie Harry went on to do later. Whatever one thinks of 'The Hunter', it firmly demonstrates that the singer was deepening her vocal range; this was arguably her best work with the original Blondie. Though it isn't as much fun as the band's earlier albums, 'The Hunter' is a must-have for Blondie fans.
The remastered CD features only one bonus track, an extended cut of 'Warchild'. I liked both versions of it, but I wish there were as many extras as were added to the 'Parallel Lines' re-release!

Zvezda's Bumerang
Zvezda has long been Russia's best known manufacturer of model kits, and their new kit of the Bumerang marks how far the company has come since its humble beginnings: this is a crisply molded and highly detailed kit of 409 parts meeting the highest standards of the industry. Reportedly it won a top prize at this year's Nuremberg Toy Show.
Although the Bumerang hasn't yet been widely produced nor entered operational service, President Putin has said he wants at least 2000 of these infantry fighting vehicles in the years to come.
However, collectors of armored car models needn't wait to add this advanced design to our collections, as Zvezda's excellent kit is already available to us!
