I only use citric acid for descaling my kitchen appliances. It works out much cheaper to use this than to buy dedicated descalers for appliances. I live in a hard water area so descaling is essential to keep appliances running at their best. I use a large (washing powder sized) scoop of citric acid in my washing machine and dishwasher and run them on a hot wash (nothing else in the machines). To save water and cost select the half load option if you have one. I also use about half a scoop in my kettle, steamer and coffee machine. If you can see scale in your kettle it's time to descale and citric acid does the job beautifully.

These particular Sain Devils are excellent for grease and oil especially where ordinary washing powder cannot get out. My only criticism is the bottles themselves as they allow too much out in one go instead of being able to drip out a smaller amount to a small targeted area.
