Hiscox Standard Classical Guitar Hard Case STD-CL (NEW)
    02 Oct, 2018
Great base level case from a manufacturer you can trust with your kit
I’m a record producer and touring singer/songwriter. I have three of these cases, which hold some of my most treasured instruments-my 1935 Dobro M32, my 1968 Gibson F-25 parlour guitar and my mid-90s commission built Perez classical guitar. They’re very well constructed (like any Hiscox kit) and are perfect for domestic touring. I would rather fly with something like my SKB cases, but, having said that, a good friend and collaborator schleps his ‘74 Rickenbacker 330 all over the world in the electric version of this level of case. For my taste, these are perfect for domestic bus/van tours and will last a long, long time. For a hobbyist player, a lifetime. The lining is plush crushed velvet in silver grey, which impresses straight away upon opening it. A friend of mine remarked “that looks like an angel’s a*se cheeks!”, which can only be a good thing to rest your pride and joy between... I fully understand and accept that it’s hard to get excited about a case, and that’s absolutely why Hiscox gear is so good. It isn’t exciting or gimmicky, it won’t excite your central nervous system with stress about your guitar getting broken, it will just get the job done in a really professional way. I think walking into a venue or studio with a Hiscox case kind of lends a bit of a “this person knows what they’re doing” vibe to proceedings. My late, great friend Jackie Leven always carried his Morgan dreadnought around in a Hiscox case, and if anyone in the world knew what they were doing, it was him. Thoroughly recommended.
Sunrise S-2PW acoustic guitar pickup - with pre-wired installation kit
    17 Dec, 2018
The absolute cream of all acoustic pickups
Ask countless pros (Richard Thompson, Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, Leo Kottke, Dan Fogelberg etc), and they will tell you (well, maybe not Dan as he's dead) that the Sunrise is the first choice for anyone who wants a consistent, stellar tone that will translate faultlessly on any stage in the world. I use my Sunrise in a Maple bodied Gibson Advanced Jumbo. It has clarity and warmth in spades, along with silky and well defined articulation. "Buttery" is a great way to describe it. I can get a more airy, acoustic tone by lowering the polepieces by a turn, or a more strident, electric tone by raising them. Super versatile and immensely "pro" sounding. I use mine straight I to a Boss AD10 acoustic processor, but the Sunrise buffer boxes are fantastic too. If you're considering it and can afford it, don't hesitate to buy the Sunrise with utmost confidence.
Boss Waza Craft TU-3W Tuner Pedal
    01 Aug, 2024
    Boss quality, but even better.
This is the second TU-3W I’ve owned, they’re the best combination of workhorse tough and high spec. The real scoop here is the studio quality buffer, which is switchable to true bypass if required. It is marvellous and a cut above the already excellent buffer in the standard Boss TU-3. The display is crystal clear and I prefer the blue display over the red of the standard TU-3. I have a selection of Waza Craft pedals including the excellent DM-2W and SD-1W. The flexibility, tone and build quality of all of them merit the upcharge over the standard Boss pedals, which are classics in their own right. Boss units inspire confidence and for a working musician such as myself that’s important-I need to know that I can stomp a pedal for 2hrs a night, 200 times a year, and it still be good to go. I have no doubt whatsoever that these superb pedals will outlive me and probably the rest of us!!
